It is with great anticipation that we started reading Out of My Mind as part of the Global Read Aloud last week. The Global Read Aloud was started by a teacher in Wisconsin, Pernille Ripp, who wanted something more for her students. It has grown to include over 138,000 students worldwide this year. So much work went into the project before hand to make it a successful collaboration project for students and teachers.
I have been able to connect with many teachers across the country. I set up an edmodo group for special education teachers looking for connections for their students. We have also created a group for the students to join so that they can connect with each other and talk about the book. We will also be collaborating with a group of general education classes. We have activities planned, but I have a feeling that more ideas will come up as we get into the book. We plan to blog and Skype throughout the 6 weeks. We are all very excited. It is an honor to participate in this great global connection that makes the world a smaller place for our students! Thank you all!
