It was the first day of Christmas vacation, and I was delighted to get a tweet from Lisa Meade. If you don't know Lisa, you should, she is one of a group of positive administrators that I know on twitter. Lisa always has an encouraging word or thoughtful way of making me remember that I matter. She has just thrown down a blogging challenge! I can't say no, and just after Lisa's challenge a second challenge comes from Vicki Day! Vicki is another great NY administrator. She is one of the leaders of our #NYedChat. Lisa and Vicki both push me to be a better teacher everyday, even on vacation! So thank you ladies, here goes:
This year I participated in the Global Read Aloud for the first time. The GRA was started and organized by Pernille Ripp as a way to connect classes around the world through the reading of a book. We read Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. The connections with so many great teachers made this experience as much fun for me as it was for my kids! I was able to get connected right away to a teacher in Iowa, Cheryl Runestald. Through Cheryl I was able to connect with Carly McAdams in Missouri, Valerie Cypert in California, and Scott Boylen in Iowa. We shared resources, worked out timezone differences, and got ready for fabulous learning. The students had a great time interacting on edmodo and we loved Skyping with them about the book. Valerie's students also left amazing comments on our blogs. They were thoughtful, encouraging, and at the same time challenged us - thank you!
I am blessed to be connected to fabulous educators and administrators on line. They are don't live near me, we've never met, but one thing unites us - a desire to grow and learn to become the best that we can be so that we can assist our students become their best! It is our passion that unites us.
