I learned a lot this summer. One of the most exciting things that I learned that I couldn't wait to share with my students was Aurasma. "Aurasma is a platform that allows businesses and organizations to create and publish their own augmented reality." It is true that this was created for businesses, but creative teachers are always on the lookout for new ways to engage their students and improve learning. Two teachers in Michigan, @techminock and @techbradwaid, have a great website that helps teachers learn the basics of using the program. 2 guys and some iPads has video tutorials and a weekly show that you will find helpful. Of course I didn't find this resource until after I had figured out how to create my first Aura.
We made our first Auras for open house. Students wrote 2 truths and a fib about themselves and then blogged the answers. I then took their picture, and recorded them reading their paragraphs. Aurasma allows us to upload pictures as a trigger image and then link the video to the trigger as an overlay, I then added a second layer that takes people to the student's blog for the answers. I had the student pictures hanging in the hall and all parents had to do was hold their phones (with the app open) up to the picture. The video would start playing, and then they could tap the screen and their child's blog would open. It was magical.
We are already thinking of other ways that we can use aurasma in class. It is an amazing way to bring pictures and words such as vocabulary to life etc. Have you started using aurasma? If so please share your ideas with us. We are better together! Thank you!
